Destination:
The Pacific has been sanctioned by the National Council for the Lewis
and Clark Bicentennial as one of only fifteen Signature Events taking
place along the Lewis and Clark trail.
Destination: The Pacific is a bi-state collaboration between Oregon and
Washington taking place November 11 –
15, 2005, with a special program commemorating The Vote on
November 24 and followed by Wintering Over activities continuing through
March 2006. The Signature Event commemorates key historic moments
including The Arrival, The Vote, The Crossing, and Wintering Over.
Signature Event activities include a re-enactment of The Arrival, a
symbolic crossing of the Columbia river over the Astoria-Megler Bridge,
a three-day Exposition with a Native American focus, an arts Gala and
festival, and various dedications at Fort Clatsop National Memorial and
state park sites in Washington and Oregon. For additional information

We are
deeply saddened by the news that the Fort Clatsop replica burned Monday
night. For news coverage of the event, you can go to The Daily Astorian

In the
meantime, the Fort Clatsop Visitors Center is open to the public during
its regular areas. The grounds are open, except for a restricted area
around the Fort area.
Plans are
underway to rebuild Fort Clatsop. In the meantime, you can support the
bicentennial commemoration by attending
