Bicentennial Signature Event

Destination: The Pacific has been sanctioned by the National Council for the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial as one of only fifteen Signature Events taking place along the Lewis and Clark trail.

Destination: The Pacific is a bi-state collaboration between Oregon and Washington taking place November 11 – 15, 2005, with a special program commemorating The Vote on November 24 and followed by Wintering Over activities continuing through March 2006. The Signature Event commemorates key historic moments including The Arrival, The Vote, The Crossing, and Wintering Over. Signature Event activities include a re-enactment of The Arrival, a symbolic crossing of the Columbia river over the Astoria-Megler Bridge, a three-day Exposition with a Native American focus, an arts Gala and festival, and various dedications at Fort Clatsop National Memorial and state park sites in Washington and Oregon.  For additional information go to www.destinationthepacific.com for ticketing and schedules.

Historic Fort Clatsop
Destroyed By Fire

We are deeply saddened by the news that the Fort Clatsop replica burned Monday night. For news coverage of the event, you can go to The Daily Astorian website, www.dailyastorian.com or listen to local radio state KAST 1370 AM.

In the meantime, the Fort Clatsop Visitors Center is open to the public during its regular areas. The grounds are open, except for a restricted area around the Fort area.

Plans are underway to rebuild Fort Clatsop. In the meantime, you can support the bicentennial commemoration by attending Destination: The Pacific, the national Signature Event held Nov. 11-15. All Destination: The Pacific events will proceed as planned. Go to www.destinationthepacific.com for ticketing and schedules.

As more information about rebuilding Fort Clatsop is available, we will provide updates to this website. You may visit the Fort's website at http://www.nps.gov/focl/home.html.
